LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

Being a member of the LGBTQ+ community can be a wonderful, freeing, and exciting experience. But sometimes, it can be really hard. Especially for those who feel constantly invalidated simply for living as their true selves. If you are part of the LGBTQ+ community and want to have a safe space in your sessions, we have therapists available to provide support.

What is a LGBTQ-Affirming Therapist?

It shouldn’t be a surprise that those in the community face significant mental health issues as a result of this. This does not indicate that being LGBTQ+ is a mental illness; it’s a sign that society is not built to include us. Sometimes, we don’t know if we can be truly comfortable in a session with someone outside of our community. An LGBTQ-Affirming therapists are educated, informed, and respectful of the LGBTQ+ community and may also identify as LGBTQ+ themselves.

Why do I need an LGBTQ-Affirming Therapist?

Therapy works best when there is sincere trust and respect between the therapist and the client. An LGBTQ-Affirming therapist takes the burden off you to explain or justify your identity as they are already familiar and supportive of all identities. This is obviously very important for anyone learning to accept their LGBTQ identity, but also incredibly important for those working through mental health issues in general, even if the presenting issue isn’t directly related.

Some common challenges that we can help with include but are not limited to:

  • Relationships and Dating

  • Self-esteem

  • Sexual and gender identity

  • Coming out

  • Shame/Guilt

  • Internalized homophobia/transphobia

  • Gender Dysphoria

  • Depression

  • Anxiety
